Located in one of the top tourism destinations for Australia, the Sydney Cricket Ground has a lot to offer to the genuine cricket fans. Just like the MCG, this ground is chosen for one of the big events in the World Cup 2015. While the Melbourne’s large stadium will host the finals, the SCG is chosen to be the host for semi-final match and it would also be hosting three other matches in the league stage and a quarter final.
The ground isn’t as huge as the MCG and it allows about 44000 people as spectators. One of the famous landmarks of this stadium is the Ladies pavilion with green roof. For a fan of test cricket, it would be no news if we say it was the great Sir Donald Bradman who scored 452* for New South Wales against Queensland, back in 1929-1930 season.
Since 1970s, the pitch has become more bowler friendly, and preferably it has been a pitch that offers a lot to the spinners. Greg Chappell for Australia has the best bowling figures in ODI, with 5/15 against India in 1981, while in the recent times, Glenn McGrath, Nathan Bracken and Brett Lee have also taken five wickets in an innings. Recently in 2013, Kieron Pollard has scored a century against Australia, scoring 109*, while the highest individual ODI score has been 151 from Andrew Symonds.
SCG will be an interesting stadium for the fact that a semi-final match is being played here. But there’s a catch – *If Australia qualifies for the semi-finals they will play in this match, but if New Zealand is playing against Australia, it will be the team finishing higher in the pool getting the home ground advantage to choose between this and New Zealand’s stadium.
