Alastair Cook, the England captain who had a very bad form and couldn’t do much to help the team win the recent ODI matches and series, has been sacked from the England squad and is out of the World Cup 2015 squad as well. Gary Ballance is the lucky player to have got the position in the team in the place of Cook.
The two other players who had played the recent series against Sri Lanka, i.e. Ben Stokes and Harry Gurney have both been omitted from the World Cup 2015 squad. The captain now for the English team is Eoin Morgan. Ben Stokes’ removal from the squad has been one of the shocking decisions in the team, apart from the expulsion of Cook’s name from the squad.
“I’ve spoken to Ben at length and he was very disappointed as you can imagine,” James Whitaker, the national selector, told Sky Sports. “It’s always going to tricky as a new player in a squad establishing yourself. There will be different positions you have to try and establish yourself in but he was obviously disappointed. We are looking for consistency and we are sure that will arrive with Ben. We have always understood his talent. He’s definitely a player for the future and will form a core part of our group in the future.”
James Anderson and Stuart Broad, the two bowlers who have been the pillars in the bowling department, are both back into the squad and thus the bowling unit is strengthened.
“We have had to make some difficult decisions to get to our final squad but firmly believe that the 15 players selected offer the very best chance of success at the World Cup,” Whitaker said.
